La Nina is still another event impacting world weather. Like its brother El Nino, La Nina occurs between the west coast of South America and the east coast of Australia. La Nina however, generally occurs at the end of an El Nino cycle.
As an El Nino ends its cycle, the trade winds return to their normal pattern - from east to west. But more often than not, they do so with a vengeance! Not only d othey return the normal flow of surface water from east to west, but quite often they drag the cooler water up from the depths.
